According to the NCADV (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence) bulletin, and what I can gather on the net; the Supreme Court just ruled on a Tennessee case that took place in 2001. In essence, the Supreme Court has ruled that even if the perpetrator of domestic violence is convicted of a misdemeanor; he or she can be barred from having or purchasing guns. This ruling applies and includes those states where no proof of physical force is required to support the domestic violence charge. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the months ahead.
I am a firm believer that persons with mental health issues or that commit criminal violence against others should not have guns. This does not diminish my outlook that the law abiding citizen should be able to own and use firearms as long as it is done in a SAFE and SANE fashion.
