Revenge Stalker

In our book we list three primary stalking typologies that we utilize as our broad-based groupings of stalking typologies. These would by Intimate Partner/Domestic Violence, Acquaintance Type, & Stranger Type. We also list and define several sub-types that we have classified. Today, we would like to discuss a type of stalking that can raise its ugly head in any number of these typologies, that of the stalking for the purpose of revenge.

We recently received a posting on our website of a victim asking our assistance on a stalking that they had been experiencing over the past several months. It all started when their identity was compromised, and the suspects who stole there identity were taken into custody. (I just love it when one of these clowns is hooked up for committing this or any other type of crime.) Identity theft can debilitate its victims. When I was working as a burglary detective, was when I first started encountering victims of identity theft would have to get several copies of the crime report they had filed, and send copies to the creditors that were harassing them for debts they had not incurred for  months to years.

Since the victims had testified against the perpetrators (two to three of which in this identity theft ring had previous violent criminal histories) they, their family had been followed, harassed, as well as a variety of other harassment tactics employed by at least two of the persons that had been arrested and convicted. This harassment included bothering the victim’s livestock.  I advised the victims to keep law enforcement in the loop, get an alarm system, and get a digital video camera system that be monitored via an App., on their Smartphones. They also advised they would be getting a copy of our new book.

Now this is just one example of a revenge stalking. We have had many others, however, one of the most common is when an intimate partner stalker decides to make their target…usually the person they had the intimate relationship with…life a living hell. This can and oftentimes is accomplished via countless acts of vandalism, character assassination, damaging or the killing of pets, etc. One recent example came to mind concerning an individual whose ex-wife has continually harassed him for years since his divorce. She continually breaks her restraining order, illegally enters his residence, and tries to use the civil court system as an harassment tool against the victim. She has been diagnosed as bi-polar, but may well have other mental health issues, and of course refuses to take her medication.  She was recently taken into custody for another violation of the order. After reviewing the case, we advised the victim, who is often away from the residence that was awarded to him by in the divorce decree; that we strongly felt that because she could not readily get to him, she would direct her anger towards his possessions. We strongly suggested that he also get an alarm system put into his residence that contained digital video cameras that he could monitor via his Smartphone. However, we also suggested that he have all of his DVR data recorded on a periodic basis to a cloud server. This way if his stalker decided to trash his system; or in the worse case scenario burn down his dwelling, he would have a record of same.

Again, we want to stress is if this happens to you, document all acts the stalker commits against you, and immediately notify law enforcement.
